who we serve
We serve youth in the local community and around the 2nd district area known as Horace Mann. Youth Empowerment is the philosophy of building community within community. It is taking our most value resources, our youth, and creating opportunity for them to develop their skills and behaviors which prepare them for success in life.
Thorough Youth Empowerment we support the following initiatives:
Our program is designed to build relationships that foster trust on both sides of the equation. This type of atmosphere creates mutual respect which also help develop maturity. Our goal is to build bridges with youth that help move the community forward in a meaningful way.
Thorough Youth Empowerment we support the following initiatives:
- Community Garden - This program encompasses our vegetable and native flower gardens and is designed to engage youth from 3rd grade throughout their high school years. Kids move from projects, to stipends, to employment, as they matriculate through their studies, providing them exposure and experience in both areas of agriculture and floriculture.
- Community Cleanup - Through this program youth invest 2.5 hours in community based cleanup projects and earn a stipend along with additional incentives as they continue with the program. After 10 projects teens earn a $5 raise and receive $20. Additional $5 raises are achieved every 7 projects.
- Rees Park Rejuvenation - We continuously improve the park aesthetics because it is a central area that should meet the need of all demographic in the community e.g. old, young, and in between.
