GCP is diligently developing its community garden program into an academic friendly framework that includes measurable objectives and tangible outcomes. Our lesson plans align with state learning achievement requirements and can be used to create a separate engagement strategy for students or augment the programs of existing teachers by providing an onsite field trip to support their material.

Theme
Bugs (insects, spiders, etc.) are a numerous and extremely diverse group of animals.
Goal
To determine identity of bugs through use of observation, questioning and description skills and to group bugs based on similar characteristics.
Community Garden Objectives
Children will be able to:
Describe at least two different kinds of bugs
Identify at least 4 different species of bugs
Describe at least 3 characteristics that help distinguish one bug from the other
